Not Conforming, Being Transformed
Many a father has stood in a swimming pool or a lake and urged a child to jump in with them. They make promises that they will catch the child and no harm will come to them. The child is reluctant, but nevertheless will take the plunge. The reason is that they trust the person who is waiting for them in the water.
A child is trusting. A child has blind faith. Generally, if you tell them something and they trust you, they will believe it. This does not mean they are not scared, but they will act out of their belief that what you say is true.
As we get older, we learn to be skeptical. We lose the trust that we once had in our parents and other people. It could be that we have experienced other people failing us and hurting us in the process. Because of this we become guarded and untrusting of other people. Unfortunately, this sometimes carries over to our faith in God as well. We learn not to trust God. We learn to be skeptical that He can handle a situation, and that leads us to try to do things ourselves.
One of the major differences between God and man is that man is sinful and God is not. Where man will fail you, God never will. He is not hindered by the evilness of sin. He will always do what He promises. You can trust in that. Sure, you may be scared to jump in, but if you have the faith of a child, you will be rewarded with the assurance that God is in control.
Our Heavenly Father stands in the water and urges us to take the plunge with Him. He promises to catch you and you can be sure that He will. Just as a child believes that his dad will keep him safe, we can believe that God will do the same. We need to have the faith of a child. We can believe that the Words of God are true. So go ahead – take the plunge!
